Needed Actions for Community Care and Development(NACC) formerly called Namwera Aids Coordinating Committee is an indigenous and not for profit NGO established in 1996 as a community response to HIV and AIDS pandemic in Namwera, through a collaborative effort of Mangochi District Hospital and Social Welfare.
By then the HIV prevalence rate was 17%. Over the years, NACC has been expanding its scope of work and geographical coverage. NACC rebranded to its new in 2022 to accomodate the growth in its scope of work over the years. NACC is working in Mangochi, Machinga, Zomba and Mulanje districts in the Southern region of Malawi.
Needed Actions for Community Care and Development (NACC) is a certified Early Childhood Development (ECD) training institution and has trained over 5000 caregivers across Malawi and was accredited as a LEVEL A Integrated ECD Resource Centre by the Ministry of Gender and Community Development in 2017. NACC is an active member of National ECD, Child Protection and Secondary Education Technical Working Groups. NACC has been involved in validating and adaptation of tools related to children and these include Minimum Service Standards for Quality Improvement of Vulnerable Children Programs, Care for Child Development, ECD Essential Package, National Early Childhood Development Policy, National ECD Curriculum, OVC Policy and others.
It has vast experience in social and community mobilization using multiple approaches such as Community Action Group (CAG), Human Centered Design (HCD), Comprehensive Community Scorecard (CCS), Communication for Development (C4D) and Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) among others. Through its Education program NACC has facilitated establishment of community education fund where community members led by their leaders pull funds together to sponser their needy students. We have also facilitated construction of 2 girls hostels at 2 CDSSs valued at over USD40,000, Libray and Laboratory at Mdinde CDSS, construvtion of 18 ECD centers with communities contibuting over 30%.
NACC has been hired by various institutions to train their caregivers including the Ministry of Gender and Community Development through its World Bank Funded Investing in the Early Years Project (IEYP), Andiamo Trust in Balaka, One Voice CBO in Zomba and Chamadzi CBO in Lilongwe.
NACC has also hosted 20 NGOs for lerning visits in community mobilisation and programing from 21 due to our unique skills which brings sustainability of initatiatives.
NACC has as well trained various institutions in manufacturing of various products using locally available materials including organic fertilizer, soap, peant butter, soya milk and soya pieces, and tomato jam and paste.
